Vodafone has teamed up with Pocket-lint to become the headline sponsor for this year's Pocket-lint Gadget Awards."We're delighted to be sponsoring the prestigious Pocket-lint gadget awards again this year. We know many of our customers like not only the latest mobiles but a variety of gadgets, so it's very appropriate that we should be associated with awards that cover such a wide range of nominations", said Ian Shepherd, Consumer Director, Vodafone UK.
In light of the new sponsorship deal, there will be an 11th awards added to the 10 awards already listed.
The new award will be "Best emailing device 2008" and look at rewarding the company who has most embraced emailing on the go be it from a mobile phone, laptop or other device.
"This is the 5th year of the Pocket-lint Gadget Awards and it's great to have Vodafone on board", said Stuart Miles, Editor of Pocket-lint. "The Awards are not only believed to be the longest running in the UK, but also the fairest, as we actually ask the opinions of our competition to help out with the judging rather than just picking who we fancy winning."
Selecting the best gadgets and gizmos from the last year, the Vodafone Pocket-lint Gadget Awards aim to commend and reward the best gadgets launched in 2008.
Pocket-lint's vigorous vetting process means that all the gadgets up for nomination have to have been seen by a member of the Pocket-lint team (so far over 600) and have to have been available in the UK between December 2007 and December 2008.
The awards, voted by a panel of leading gadget journalists, including the staff from the Pocket-lint team, will decide the real must-have gadgets of the year, rather than those simply deemed cool or anticipated, and be the definitive guide for consumers looking to buy gadgets this Christmas.
The categories are:
Best music gadget
Best car gadget
Best digital camera
Best laptop
Best software/service
Best game
Best home cinema device
Best mobile phone
Best eco gadget
Best emailing device 2008
Gadget of the Year 2008
The final nominations will be announced on Friday 10 October 2008 with the winners being announced at the beginning of November. Audio, Biz, Car And GPS, Dad, Gadgets, Gaming, Hardware, Home Cinema, Phones, Cameras, Software, Sports Fitness, Pocket-lint Awards
