If you thought an 80GB hard drive sporting PlayStation 3 was big, Sony has just announced a 160GB hard drive at its keynote speech in Leipzig in Germany.

The new mammoth PS3, announced by SCEE president Reeves, will go on sale on 31 October for 449 euros (£350) in a bundle including additional PLAYSTATION Network content.

Reeves pitched the 160GB model at "those of you out there with an insatiable thirst for downloadable content and an unquenchable need for storage space".

The announcement comes as an 80GB model hits the UK this Friday.

Have you ordered an 80GB model? Will you be cancelling your order and waiting for October? Let us know in the comments below.

  • Why bother waiting? Get a cheap PS3 and upgrade it yourself.

You can get a 320gig 2.5" SATA for only £60 and it'll be at least a year before Sony realise that you _need_ something that big to store all your video on and start selling a PS3 with sensible storage.

  • Will it weigh more? My PS3 is currently holding my door open as the worlds most expensively pointless door wedge.

Why bother bringing out a bigger hard drive when theres only about 5 games worthwhile owning?

Sony might as well just pack it in now cos nobody brought any of the other versions so making it more expensive just further upsets the people that paid 499 squid for one before

  • The PS3 160gb is not only about memory. It has two HDMI slots which means you can connect it to 2 screens. It has 6 usb slots and the bluetooth is better. Sony are putting more things on the Playstaion store like HD movies, full games, tv shows, game demos, music videos and much much more. Plus you can store more of your own pictures and movies. It also comes with a free dualshock 3 sixaxis controller and playstation network content free game demos a Blu-ray movie and other things in the hard drive. Get the PS3 160gb its only £50 extra than the 80gb. Posted by Bob, UK
