Nike comes to iPhone. Phones, iPhone apps, Apple, Nike 0

There has been a rumour for some time that Nike will be launching an iPhone app and while there is no official confirmation to report, screen grabs of a Nike + app have appeared around the web suggesting its only a matter of time before an official release.

French site iphon.fr has a number of grabs suggesting the software application is going to be similar in its execution to the Samsung MiCoach system announced earlier in the year that allows you to run with your mobile phone, capture the data and then analyse it later.

Looking at the screens it seems everything from a stopwatch to using the in-built GPS in the new iPhone 3G will be utilised giving you a chance to see how you've performed.

Sports functionality has started to become a key area in the mobile phone market in recent months with Sony Ericsson, Samsung and Nokia all offering you solutions to get you fit using your phone.

It will be interesting to see if the Nike+ solution comes with additional hardware support beyond the phone as well as how they aim to solve the problem of carrying something so large in your pocket on a run.

  • I've just ordered a pair of Nike+ trainers and if this is true i'm well looking forward to it...

been looking for something concrete on the net all day and there's so much demand for this but no-one seems to have any real details so i'm still quite dubious

  • Why is there still a need for the sensor. I'm hoping the pictures I've seen are just for effect. Surely the iPhone could just use GPS for tracking. I'm hoping Nike don't have huge stockpiles of the sensors meaning they're releasing an early version to shift the sensors before later making them defunct. Posted by Chris, uk
  • I heard that the GPS receiver in the iPhone isn't good enough to do turn by turn, if that's the case how is it going to work out i'm running a particular good mile unless there is a sensor? Posted by Bob, UK
