The specs and some pics were actually released by 3 in July, but today the 3 Skypephone S2 has become official.

Available for pre-order from tomorrow (19 August), the 3 Skypephone S2 offers free Skype calling and instant messaging like its predecessor, but also adds social networking tools.

These include instant access to Facebook, Google and Windows Live Messenger.

And you can also track up to 30 RSS feeds.

The phone, which will be available to buy online from 27 August and in-store from 1 September, boasts a new "carousel" interface.

And you can also use the new switcher key on the side of the handset to move between applications.

The new model is claimed to be better looking than the original with metal keys and a turned steel back.

Plus you also get a 2.2-inch QVGA screen, a 3.2-megapixel camera, and up to 4GB expandable memory.

Connectivity-wise - you can also use the S2 as a modem for your laptop getting HSDPA internet connection by just using the cable in the box.

The 3 Skypephone S2 is free on any of 3’s Mix & Match tariffs and costs £69.99 on Pay As You Go.

If you sign up to one of 3’s internet add-ons from £2.50, you’ll also be covered to browse the mobile internet.
