Gizmondo goes widescreen

Handheld console gets stretched

The Gizmondo handheld hasn't even launched in the States yet, however Tiger Telamatics has released plans of its second generation widescreen model due to be launched next year.

According to the company, the new widescreen version will be sold alongside the current version when it launches next year.

Commentators believe the move is in response to the popularity of Sony's Portable PlayStation gaming console that sports a screen 4.3in wide compared to the Gizmondo's 2.8in.

The new console will also feature Bluetooth 2.0 for faster connections and a faster processor. The new model will however still retain the current GSM/GPRS functionality but add a TV-out port.

The company hope to have a demo version of the new model to show at CES, the annual consumer electronics show in Las Vegas.
