Canon has launched two new high-definition camcorders that record HD footage to their own high-capacity internal Hard Disk Drives (HDD).

Building on the success of the award-winning HG10, Canon's HG20 and HG21, with improvements in both performance and features.

Firstly, both substantially increase the HDD capacity to store huge volumes of film, with 60GB available on the HG20 and 120GB to store on the HG21. This should be enough space to hold around 22 hours and 45 hours of HD video respectively.

Both models also capture and record Advanced Video Codec for High Definition (AVCHD) footage in 1920 x 1080 "full HD"
resolution, at the maximum data rate of 24Mbps - providing the best possible HD video footage available.

In addition to the huge hard disk drives, the Canon HG20 and HG21 also offer support for SDHC cards, which means users can choose how they store their footage. Of course, by using Canon's Dual Recording system, users have the ability to easily record to both SDHC as well as the HDD storage.

Both the HG20 and HG21 HD camcorders from Canon will be available in early September with pricing to be confirmed.
