Sky and Five win cricket rights deal

£300m television deal

Sky and Five have signed a 3-year deal winning the rights to cover England cricket matches.

The two companies has forked out £300m to secure the rights to air matches involving the England cricket team between 2010 and 2013.

Sky Sports has won the rights to domestic and international cricket in England and Wales. where as Five has agreed a deal for a highlights package to be screened between 7.15-8pm.

But while Sky subscribers and Five viewers will be celebrating - the deal means that there will continue to be no live cricket on terrestrial TV until 2013 at the earliest.

In fact, this has been the case since 2006 when Sky and Five TV first scooped England cricket team TV rights in 2006.

However - if you're happy to tune in for radio reports - the BBC will continue to offer live coverage of England matches on Test Match Special on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra, on Radio Four long-wave and via the BBC Sport website.
