23 January 2004 12:36 GMT / By Stuart Miles
Playing PC games on a PC may become a thing of the past if an American company called Apex has anything to do with it. The plan is to launch the first PC games console with DVD player called The ApeXtreme that will allow gamers to play their PC games on the console.
The unit insides offer a 1.4Ghz via chip, a 64Mb graphics card, 20Gb hard drive, and 256Mb of memory, all running off an embedded version of Windows XP.
The system also offers a tray-loaded combo CD/DVD player and four USB2.0 as well and fast boot-ups due to the embedded OS on the chip. Fans of the Linux Operating system should also be happy as the unit promises to be fully compatible with the Open Source platform.
Apex has yet to suggests release dates and price.
