Sony breaks double figures with new digital camera

Sony has launched the Sony Cyber-shot R, a digital camera it is claiming is the world's first digital still camera that combines a large 10.3 effective Megapixel CMOS sensor, and a 24mm - 120mm (35mm) ZEISS Zoom lens in the same body, allowing ‘live' viewing with the free-angle 2in LCD screen.

The camera, that will retail at £699 in the UK, will offer three Colour Reproduction Modes (Standard/Vivid/AdobeRGB), an advanced Gradation Control System, High Speed Burst control of up to 3.0frames per second, Dual Slot for Memory Stick and Compact Flash, One Push AF.

Additionally the camera promises a Preview mode - Start-up 0.68 sec, Shutter Time Lag 0.29 sec, Shutter Release Lag 0.0075 sec. Sony is even staying that photographers will be able to get approximately 500 shots from one charge.

For professionals the camera will offer RAW Data Recording, USB 2.0 connectivity an dis PictBridge Compatible.

The Cyber-shot R1 will be available from mid-November 2005.
