Bored of talking to your friends? Well, Bebo members will soon be able to send messages into space.

The social networking site has teamed up with production company RDF Digital to launch the A Message From Earth project.

This means that 500 Bebo users, selected by a vote, will get to send their messages, including pics, into space.

The project launches on 4 August.

And then it will be countdown to the launch of a digital capsule which will rocket to planet Gliese, which is 20.5 light years away.

The messages will be sent into space on 9 October 2008 by the National Space Agency of Ukraine's RT-70 radio telescope.

The messages are due to reach the planet by spring 2029.

Mark Charkin, Bebo VP of sales, said, "A Message From Earth presents an opportunity for the digital natives of today, for whom the internet is both a fact of life and an integral part of their lives, to reconnect with science and the wider universe in a simple, fun and immersive way".
