Toshiba has released a little something that could take some of the limelight from that host of mini-PCs that are now flooding the market following on from the success of the Asus Eee PC.

So we have the Acer Aspire, the Asus Eee and the MSI Wind in its many guises, but here is something different.

It may be just a concept at this stage but, with its shiny chrome finish and touchscreen instead of a keyboard, this working mock-up from Toshiba is definitely exciting.

It has a 5.6-inch display, 64GB Solid State Drive and is powered by an Intel Atom processor.

According to reports, it runs Windows Vista and no Linux OS option has been mentioned.

But will it ever be made?

Toshiba's Mark Whittard told Gizmodo: "We don't think this [prototype] is commercially viable, it's too small. Having said that, we will have a ULPC (Ultra-Low Cost PC) soon".

Whittard added that this will be a "premium version" costing a "few hundred dollars" more than the typical $499 price tag of rival models.
