The Government seems to be putting some serious clout behind alternatives to petrol-power for cars, with the PM himself stating last month that a greater take-up of electric and hybrid vehicles would be key to achieving carbon reduction targets.

The NICE Car Company is one of the innovators in this arena, actually delivering electric models now whilst other companies unveil concept models.

And the Ze-O is its family model, with five seats and a £13,995 price tag.

On sale from September/October, it comes with a 2-year warranty, has a maximum speed of 50mph, and a 65 mile range in typical city driving.

The Ze-O takes 5-8 hours to charge its AGM sealed lead acid battery although you can also opt for the Lithium-ion version.

Standard equipment includes a high performance brushless electric motor, side impact beams, child locks, radio/CD, fog lights, reclining front seats, and 50/50 folding rear seats.

Optional extras include air con, electric pack (powered windows, locks and mirrors), alloy wheels, reverse sensors, dual airbags (from December 08), and automatic transmission.
