UPDATED: Sony VAIO SR series ultra-portable notebooks launch

Sony has introduced a new line of ultra-portable PCs - the VAIO SR series notebook - in the States.

Constructed of lightweight, durable magnesium alloy, the SR notebooks are available in five colours– night black, sunset pink, glossy pink, classic silver and glossy silver.

Weighing just over four pounds, the SR notebook boasts a 13.3-inch LED backlit widescreen display that has Sony's XBRITE-ECO LCD technology.

With what the company says is a "uniquely designed" keyboard, the unit's individual keys are slightly raised, which is said to give a more user-friendly touch and improved typing experience.

The SR series also boasts the same cylindrical design as the FW model so the screen sits behind, not on top of, the keyboard.

Powered by new Intel Centrino 2 technology, there's integrated 802.11n wireless, a built-in webcam and G-Sensor shock protection.

The product offers a Memory Stick media/SD card slot, three USB ports, i.LINK IEEE-1394 port, microphone and headphone jack and a PC Card for transfer of files from external devices.

Bundled with tons of VAIO media software and available with Vista - or XP as a "downgrade" - the Sony VAIO SR Series notebooks will be available in America at the end of the month starting at about $1400.

The 3GB model will be £849 +VAT while the 4GB model is £999 +VAT.
