Nokia has announced that nine more companies, including the mobile phone operator 3, will join the new open mobile software alliance Symbian Foundation, Reuters reports.

The original announcement, made in June, saw Nokia buying out the Symbian software company and making the operating system open source, to be shared with other Foundation members.

Nokia said the foundation has now 30 members after also mobile operators 3, America Movil and TIM, chip maker Marvell, and services and software providers Aplix, Elektrobit, EMCC Software, Sasken and TietoEnator joined.
