It's being reported that the BBC has more ambitious plans for its video on demand iPlayer service, looking to expand to another platform, the Nokia N95, and see content hosted on third party sites.

Marketing news source Brand Republic states that according to the Beeb's head of digital media, Anthony Rose, a mobile version of the iPlayer, which at the moment is only available for the Apple iPhone, may soon see a launch for Nokia N95 handsets as part of scheme to offer the service to a wider audience.

In addition, Rose has apparently revealed plans to make the service embeddable, which would mean users could put clips from the iPlayer on third-party websites, in particular social networking sites like Facebook and Bebo.

Plans are said to be already in motion to enable users to post entire shows onto third-party sites, although sites will be "checked for appropriateness".

  • When you say 'N95' you really mean 'Symbian' or 'Nokia Apps' right? Why would this work solely on the N95 and not say on my N82 for example?

It doesn't make sense that this would only work on one, old Nokia. Hopefully the 'N95' reference was just a popularity one to spur some immediate interest.
