Olympus announce seven new cameras

Olympus launch Mju 600, SP-500UZ, SP-350, SP-310, FE-100, FE-110 and FE-120

Olympus following hot on the footsteps of Canon last week is launching a range of new digital cameras in the run up to Christmas.

The Mju 600 is the company's flagship model and will come in three colours; Navy Blue, Ruby Red and Arctic Silver and offer 6 megapixels. The camera will also offer Olympus' BrightCapture Technology that allows you to take pictures in the dark without using the flash, making the ‘rabbit in the headlights' look a thing of the past.

Also available are 23 special scene modes covering all manner of shooting situations from portraits, landscapes and night scenes right through to underwater photography.

Further features include both a Macro and Super Macro shooting - for up close and personal shots, a movie recording function for capturing both the sights and sounds of the party and a new Red-eye Fix editing mode to remove those demonic eyes from the camera's memory.

The Olympus SP-500UZ offers 6.0 million pixels, a 10x zoom lens (equiv. to 38-380mm) 1:2.8-3.7, plus 5x digital zoom. The camera also offers 21 scene modes including Portrait, Landscape, Sports and Sunset and an electronic viewfinder with 201,600 pixels to see it on as an alternative to the 2.5in colour LCD. The camera is available from October priced around £300.

Olympus has also announced the SP-350 and SP-310 models. Both are available from October priced around £310 and £270 respectively with the SP-310 exclusive to Jessops. The 8.0 million pixel Olympus SP-350 and 7.1 million pixel SP-310 will offer 500 shots possible on a single set of CR-V3 batteries the possibilities are endless. In addition to the impressive battery strenght, the cameras will offer a 3x zoom lens (equiv. 38-114mm on a 35mm camera), 2.5in LCD monitor and 25MB internal memory plus xD-Picture Card slot

Geared towards the budget market, The Olympus FE-100 is priced around £120 and will be available in shops in September and the FE-110 is priced around £150 and will be available in October.

With 5.0 and 4.0 million pixels respectively, the FE-110 and FE-100 will offer a 2.8x optical zoom plus 4x digital zoom along aside 1.5in LCD. The cameras have a rather disappointing four scene modes compared to the 23 found on the Mju 600.

The Olympus FE-120 will be available exclusively from Dixons from the end of September and offer 6 megapixels.
