Kaleidescape launch two new players

New form factor and upscaling tech

Kaleidescape, the company behind the Rolls Royce of media servers, has announced two new players for its range of servers for those looking to rid DVDs from their home.

The new players, which will set you back around £1800 a piece, will offer a smaller form factor alongside 1080p support and give users the ability to watch movies stored on a central hard drive in their home from any room.

The system, which promises to ban trailers in the home for good thanks to some clever bookmarking software allows you to store up to 150 DVDs on two 1TB drives.

The new players will offer upscaling until a Blu-ray option becomes available in 2009.

The company also announced that it has teamed up with Philips to allow the Philips Pronto remote control system to work with Kaleidescape. Using the all-in-one wireless remote, users will now have greater control of their files according to the company.

Meanwhile a company called Airremote is to launch a remote control interface for the media server using an iPod touch or iPhone.
