Ricoh has unveiled a high-end, 24mm super-wide-angle, optical zoom, digital compact featuring a 12 megapixel CCD coupled with its latest imaging engine.

The new GX200 succeeds the Caplio GX100, which was launched in April 2007, but inherits some of its features including the 24-72mm wide-angle optical zoom lens.

Despite the lens size, and the camera's removeable tilting viewfinder, the GX200 is only 25mm thick.

The camera is built around a 12 megapixel CCD and achieves "dramatic" noise reduction with the addition of the new image processing engine, the Smooth Imaging Engine III.

Also worth a mention – the camera’s wide-viewing angle 2.7 inch 460,000 dots HVGA LCD and an electronic level function, for horizontal and vertical shooting.

This model comes in two package types with different accessories.

The GX200 package contains rechargeable lithium ion battery, battery charger, AV cable, USB cable, CD-ROM, strap, and lens cap.

The GX200 VF Kit package contains all the above accessories as well as the electronic viewfinder.

The VF kit will arrive at the beginning of next month and is priced £399.99 while the standard kit is £349.99.
