Nvidia is claiming it has built the most advanced GPU ever.

The company has today launched its new family of GeForce GTX 200 graphics processors (GPUs).

This includes the GeForce GTX 280 and GeForce GTX 260 which is claimed has enough computing processing power to run applications 140 times faster on an Nvidia general-purpose parallel processor than on some of today’s traditional CPUs.

Nvidia says it has "taken graphics beyond gaming and gaming beyond anything that’s ever been possible before on a consumer computing platform", with its new launches.

One of the first machines to use the chips is the Exhilaration Edition of the HP Blackbird 002.

Nvidia GPUs are also the only GPUs on the market to support PhysX technology, which is being used to deliver "dynamic 3D realism" to more than 140 games across multiple platforms, and is being used by more than 25,000 developers worldwide.

Graphics cards featuring GeForce GTX 280 GPUs are available from Asus, Gigabyte and MSI among others while the graphics cards featuring GeForce GTX 260 GPUs will be available from 26 June.
