"We will have a touch screen device by the end of the year", Soren Petersen, Senior VP or devices for Nokia before admitting that Nokia has been "a little bit slower" when it comes to developing new handsets to go up against the likes of Apple.

The comment came as Nokia launched the new E71 and E66 business-focused handsets in London.

"We are launching between 50-60 new devices every year we cover our bases very well", said Petersen. "Every now and then there is a device we would like to have designed or developed ... Having a unit that will sell 5 to 8 million devices won't make a splash."

Nokia says it expects to sell over half a billion handset across all its ranges next year.
