Gigabyte M528 MID priced and poked
$750 (but only available in Taiwan for the moment)
13 June 2008 12:26 GMT / By Katie Scott
UMPCs are all the rage at the moment, but here's an alternative.
The Gigabyte M528 MID was first unveiled to the world at CeBIT, but now the full specs, price and availability have been published.
So - it packs in a 800 x 480 touchscreen, 3 mepgapixel auto-focus camera and 4GB SSD with integrated GPS and 3G modules all controlled from the Moblin-based software.
The apps include a browser based on the Firefox 3 engine, Skype, Pidgin IM, and OpenOffice 2.4.
Without a phone contract, it'll set you back $750, which, believe it or not, compares well with unsubsidised smartphones like the HTC Advantage and Nokia E90.
This is the price for the Taiwanese market, where the MID will launch late next month.
There's no price for any other country as yet nor launch dates, but UMPC Portal is suggesting August for the rest of the world.
