Sony has announced the DVP-NS708H DVD player that upscales standard definition DVDs to 1080p.

With the claim of providing "sublime, detail-packed pictures", the DVD player gives you 1920 x 1080 Full HD images with progressive scanning, the highest resolution format your HD TV can display.

Sony is also pushing the player as a means of displaying digital pics with JPEG images burned onto CD or DVD able to be displayed.

With a "premium" high-gloss black finish, Bravia Sync, HDMI and audio CD playback, availability and pricing has yet to be announced.
