Sky has launched a new wireless device that will connect to your Sky box allowing you to listen to your favourite Sky TV and radio channels in any room of the house.

Compatible with all Sky boxes and with no additional subscription charge, Sky Gnome will offer a wireless connectivity up to a range of 30 metres from your Sky box. Sky+ customers can use the Gnome to listen to pre-recorded programmes in their Sky+ planner.

The unit itself features stereo sound, a backlit LCD display with full channel and programme information, volume and channel control and the option to pre-set your 10 favourite channels.

Sky Gnome is available in a choice of two colours, 'Cool Blue' and 'Funky Orange' and comes complete with rechargeable batteries, offering up to 8 hours of roaming.

Sky has also implied that the unit can also act as a parental control device so you can listen to whatever the kids are watching while being in another room or the garden.

Sky Gnome will be available from October 2005. Pricing will be confirmed in due course.
