Here's a nifty idea - a gadget that mimics the flickering glow of the TV to trick thieves.

The FakeTV is a $49 anti-burglary device that simulates the light that comes off a 27-inch TV, but using a fraction of the power usage (about the same amount as a night light).

The manufacturers say it will simulate "the light effects of real television programming - scene changes, camera pans, fades, flicks, swells, on-screen motion, and more".

An AC adapter is included.

And the device will turn on automatically when its built-in light sensor senses the sun going down, so there's no need for an external timer.

All great as long as you don't live in the Arctic Circle and it's summer.
