Canon launches the DC20 and DC10 direct to DVD camcorders

Canon follows hot on the heals of Sony with two direct to DVD camcorders

Following hot on the heels of the Sony's Handycam DCR-DVD7E camcorder, Canon has launched what it is claiming is the world's smallest and lightest 1 Megapixel DVD digital video cameras that record straight to DVD discs.

The two new models, the DC10 and DC20, are also the first digital video cameras to support photo printing via PictBridge direct from camera to printer.

The 1.33 Megapixel DC10 and 2.2 Megapixel DC20 are Canon's first straight to DVD models. They measure just 47mm thick and allow video and digital stills to be shot straight to DVD, for easy playback on a DVD player.

Like the Sony Handycam model when the shooting is over, DVDs can be finalised in camera and then fed straight into a DVD player for instant playback.

The cameras feature a large 2.5in LCD, 9-point AiAF auto focus, a Print/Share button, High Resolution 16:9 widescreen mode for panoramic widescreen, a powerful 10x optical zoom with built in lens cap and Electronic Image Stabiliser (EIS).

The DC20 also features Super Night Mode - incorporating a Mini Video light for shooting even in zero light conditions - and a light guide flash for extending digital photo options.

Special Scene Modes help get great results in tricky lighting conditions, and include Portrait, Sport, Night, Snow, Beach, Sunset, Foliage and Fireworks.
The DC10 and DC20 will be available from October 2005. Canon has yet to set a price for the two new models.

Canon also announced the launch of the 4.29 Megapixel MVX4i digital video camera today.

The first ever to include over 4 Megapixels in a single CCD sensor. The new model will feature DIGIC DV processor, RGB Primary Colour Filter and a host of advanced digital still camera features, including a 10x optical zoom, High Resolution 16:9 widescreen mode, built in stills flash and Mini Video Light, a 2.5in colour LCD, Electronic Image Stabiliser (EIS) and SD memory card slot for recording Motion JPEGs and JPEGs.

The MVX4i which is also PictBridge compliant, features a Print/Share button for simple PC-less printing of digital stills direct to compatible photo printers, and PC uploads.
