HTC: We'll sell two million Touch Diamonds in 2008

New smartphone to be offered in 30 countries

In what seems like a fairly modest statement of intent, HTC has revealed it hopes to sell two million units of its latest smartphone, the HTC Touch Diamond, before the end of the year.

The sales target was detailed by company CEO Peter Chou at the device's launch in Taiwan this week.

Chou revealed that the Windows mobile touchscreen phone - that is described as an iPhone rival - will be offered for sale in more than 30 countries.

The earlier version of the device, the HTC Touch, launched in June 2007, hit the two million sales milestone in January 2008.

In comparison Apple's iPhone, launched around 3 weeks after the original Touch, had sold 5.4 million units at the finish of the last quarter with a sales target of 9 million for this year.
