Hopefully marking the end of "lorry driver follows satnav under low bridge" news stories, Navevo has unveiled its satnav solution for drivers of heavy goods vehicles and vans.

Using NAVTEQ Transport, ProNav GPS software features dynamic routing and navigation optimisation based on a vehicle's dimensions, road warnings and legal restrictions to avoid such incidents.

Suitable for HGVs, vans, horse transporters, caravans or trailers, the software also incorporates info on London area unloading with pinpointed loading bays with exception times and a parking penalties database.

In addition to POI databases included on standard systems, ProNav features a points of interest database tailored to professional drivers including national HGV petrol stations and London cafes where drivers can purchase breakfast for under £5, as well as 40,000 other POIs supplied by NAVTEQ.

Complete with street level mapping for the UK and Republic of Ireland, seven digit postcode lookup and a 6 month free trial of safety camera alerts the features designed specifically for the professional driver can be switched off, turning ProNav into a standard GPS for every day use in the car.

  • Just purchased this from Maplins and have sent it straight back for a refund. Unit freezes constantly. Features are hard to use and require in depth menus. Routing can take 5 minutes and doesn't like to route from a side road or from a building. Very poor software. Unable to add favourites (for regular routes). No traffic pack. Do not buy this early version, it's very poor. (from a class 1 lorry driver of 24 years) Posted by R Hayman, England
  • I have just purchased a ProNav from Maplin and I found that the first time you use it will take time to get a lock on the GPS but after that it was fine.
I had no freezing at all.
Side roads if you put it in Full Navigation it work out better where you are starting from and going too.
So side roads ok with it in this mode plus I added another 4 drop offs in this mode.
Traffic would be nice but I did relies it was not on this unit.
Favourites would be good to add to this product, but over all it is better than just standard Sat Nav

Ps this site drove me mad trying to post this as it took three attempts

  • I am a class 1 driver and in my day to day job I need to navigate round various
bridges heights as I deliver roof trusses ranging from 10 foot up to and over 16 foot.
Pronav seem to be the Sat Nav I have been waiting for but what a huge disappointment.Firstly you cannot input the range of heights I need for my job secondly GPS takes for ever to fix 3 satellites which it needs for the unit to work if you go of route it takes for ever to recalculate and new route.
In the box there is no mains charger no case no proper instructions as such in all my personnel opinion is that Pronav was rush out onto the market to quick trying to cash in.

Conclusion don't buy Pronav now wait until the software has been fully tested

  • Maplin have a new software upate for the Pronav which should sort out the problems people have been having. It can be found at www.maplin.co.uk and www.pronav.co.uk from the 10th of July Posted by Grant, England
  • Took first one back to Maplin for exchange but second ones the same. It will only work in 2D. Postcode search is awful - does not give road names, just the postcode. Thinks parts of the M2 are 'no lorries allowed'. Took me off the A12 at Wickford and straight back onto it again. Still tries to route through 7.5 T limits and tiny single track roads. Windscreen mount and unit look and feel cheap, expect to pay about 50 quid if it weren't for the dodgy software that doesn't work. Still have to carry the Tomtom round for checking postcodes, and maps to check the routes, so in the end the Pronav is pointless!
Will have to return for a refund and maybe try the Snooper.

  • Purchased pronav downloaded the latest updates from pronav website.By the end of my first morning using this device i had given up with it,and went back to using my normal satnav. It consantly would instruct me to exit motorways, only then to direct me back on to the same motorway junction.does not operate when on industrial estates or from minor roads.instructed me to drive down 7.5 ton Road, does not seem to know what it's doing.coming out of Peterborough,it instructs me to drive down the A1,instead of exiting A1 so far down and cutting across the A14 west,to get to the M6.(A14 being a major HGV route also and totally missed it) very poor allround performance.I took it back to shop the next day and got a refund..will probably look at the snooper instead.. • I was just about to enter my credit card details to buy this for my Husbands Birthday, when my computer flicked back to this page, this time I saw all the comments, glad I did now, not buying this now!!! anyone want to challenge me now on the guardian angel thing eh??.....................Damm! what am I going to get him now?

  • looks like a waste of money the snooper truckmate 2000 seems to be the one to go for Posted by mick, england
  • I was going to buy one of these as well but after seeing the comments above I Think I might buy a normal Sat Nav and pay special attention to where it is taking me, lol. cant really afford the snooper however it does sound incredible ..... Posted by Dniel, England
  • Just wasted £189 on this pice of shite tested it from a well known retailer to home tried to take me 40 miles out of my way and the truck icon dose not even stay on the road or tell you what lane to be in like the assistant told me dont but it will be taking back for a refund. • Where to start....?
Having registered this item for the Speed Camera updates, I logged into the Navevo site and downloaded the updates but was unableto install due to a problem with Windows Mobile Device Centre. I installed the patch from Microsoft, then had to restart my pc. Once the pc was running again, I was unable to instsll the camera updates as it claimed the renewal tool has exopired and can no longer be used to renew the (free) subscription.
There is no login facility on the site - it looks like the only way you can get to the free download information is by re-registering the item again; but will they reject it as fraud as it's already registered.....??
Email sent to the support email address seeking clarification, still awaiting a reply....
Only got 9 days left to download the information - will they respond in time?
As for the operation of the unit, there is a lot of choice of how you want to follow the information, but accessing it is complicated - the destruction booklet is better employed as a beer mat.
The idea is great, but in my opinion the instructions and ease of use is not worth the money.
