You've spread your blanket on the dewy grass, the picnic is ready for munching, the Pimms poured, and then the buzzing starts.

This little drop of glass could be the answer to seeing off the clouds of bugs.

The Anti-Fly Sphere Device, designed by José de la O, is based on an old Mexican solution of getting rid of flies by hanging clear plastic bags filled with water just above taco stands.

Here's the science bit - the refraction of the water amplifies the colours and movements that catch the eyes of a fly, so they see themselves reflected and distorted on the sphere, and are scared away.

Then you can enjoy your grub without their grubby feet all over it.
