So it might never make it to the shops but check out this handheld computer design if not just for its wacky weirdness.

Introducing the AlphaGrip, which is one of the entries to this year's Microsoft's Next-Gen PC Design Competition.

It's had the chaps at Engadget reminiscing about the "defunct from birth" Atari Jaguar whereas we think it's like something you would have seen on Star Trek in the 80s.

It boasts full-size rocker keys on the front and a flip-up display, while the keypad is apparently made specifically for thumb-typing.

The trackball serves as a mouse and there's also an array of buttons for playing "sophisticated PC games".

Bloggers are already saying it's not going to catch on but it's amusing to imagine hoards of commuters typing anyway on it none the less.
