GAME giddy on gargantuan growth

And that's even before Wii Fit and GTA IV hit the shelves

2007 was such a strong year for the games store, GAME, that it is planning on opening around 100 store this year.

The company boasted record operating profits of £75.2 million for the year ending 31 January 2008, which was 41.2% increase in like-for-like sales from the previous year.

These profits take into account £7.1 million of costs for the takeover last year of the Gamestation retail chain, which has now brought the number of GAME stores in the UK up to a whopping 649.

But it is outside of the UK that GAME will grow this year with planned openings in France, Spain and Australia.

In 2007, GAME opened 116 new stores in four territories bringing total international stores to 512 including franchises; and saw its international operating profits more than double.

The company's web sales were also up increasing by around 60% from the year before.

And the next financial results will take in the launch of Wii Fit and GTA IV so we think the GAME execs are going to be all smiles again.
