A successful record breaking day for the games industry has been marred by violence in two cities over copies of Grand Theft Auto IV.

An 18-year-old man was mugged in Leyland, Lancashire, shortly after he had managed to buy a copy of the game for £40.

According to The Manchester Evening News, two men punched the victim to the ground and then kicked him, shattering his nose and jaw. They snatched the game before running away.

And in Croydon, south London, a 23-year-old man was stabbed whilst waiting in the queue to buy the game. The incident, outside the Gamestation store, happened at around 11pm as keen gamers stood in line to buy GTA IV.

The victim did not call for help but the police were contacted by witnesses. He has since been discharged from hospital.
