iTunes reaches 500000000 downloads

Apple has announced that it has now sold over 500,000,000 songs through its iTunes Music store.

In an attempt to push past the 500m barrier, Apple offered a top prize of ten iPods, a 10,000-song iTunes gift card and an all-expenses paid trip for four to see Coldplay live to the person who downloaded the 500 millionth song.

Apple also said it would hand over an iPod Mini and a 50-song bundle every 100,000 songs.
