Results from the latest financial period show that Tesco, as well as an 11% rise in profits, has seen very healthy growth in the consumer electronics area.

Tesco's non-food operations are seen to have helped the group's total sales reach £51.8 billion – an increase of 11% over the 2006/7 figures.

As far as gadgets go, laptops in particular performed well, as did flat screen television and digital cameras - increases drove a 31% sales growth over 2007.

Tesco stated that it intends to increase sales of non-food items to be on par with those of its food operation and has just announced the launch of Tesco Digital, an iTunes rivalling online content store that will offer music, TV, film and games.
