Sharp has released a new Mobile Internet Device using the newly announced Intel Atom chip.

The model, called the D4, will use the new Intel chipset in the device due out in June even though the chip manufacturer says that it didn't expect companies to use the new chip until 2009-2010.

The D4, which will be available on Japanese carrier Willcom, will run Windows Vista Home Premium, have a 1.33GHz Atom Z520 on board, come with 1GB of memory and 40GB hard drive.

Other tech specs continue with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0, a 2 megapixel camera on the back, microSD card, and built-in TV tuner.

Smaller than the UMPC standard, the model will measure 188 x 84 x 25.9mm and weigh 470g but still find room for a QWERTY keyboard and 5-inch screen.

The D4 is set to retail for around £650 when it becomes available in June in Japan.
