Altec Lansing is to announce an update to its inMotion iM500 speaker (pictured) next week Pocket-lint has learnt.

According to Altec Lansing the new update of the iM500 speaker system, which will cost around £80, "perfectly partners the iPod nano".

The design has changed to fit the new nano, as it used to have a long indentation on the front that fitted with the older nano's design.

As before, the built-in iPod docking station charges and syncs just the iPod nano, and the auxiliary jack enables users to plug in other audio devices, including other iPods, CD, MP3 and portable DVD players.

The iM500 uses broad-faced speaker cones that promise to "maximize" the surface area to drive more air within a small space. Additionally, Altec Lansing say that the sound is enhanced by MaxBass technology for greater bass performance.

The iM500 features a foldaway design and measures 21.5cm (8.5”) wide, 1.8cm (0.7”) deep and 1.2cm (5”) high making it similar in thickness to a DVD case.

The iM500 can be powered by either AC mains or six AAA batteries, providing up to 8 hours of continuous play according to the company and includes a protective carrying pouch.
