RIM has announced that downloads of the Facebook for BlackBerry Smartphones application have surpassed the million mark.

The mobile software application, which RIM says uses the push-based BlackBerry service and Facebook platform to offer "an unparalleled mobile experience for Facebook users", was launched in October last year.

With the Facebook for BlackBerry Smartphones application, Facebook users can wirelessly send and view messages, photos, pokes and Wall posts.

The software application is available as a free download from www.blackberry.com/go/facebook and can also be downloaded direct to BlackBerry handsets.
