Yahoo offers SMS search in US

Yahoo offers search to mobile users

8 July 2005 16:07 GMT / By Stuart Miles

Yahoo has launched a new service that will allow mobile phone users in America to send search requests via SMS and get results back from the search engine.

Similar to the Google SMS service launched late last year users can receive related search results on weather, horoscopes, stock quotes, local listings, dictionary definitions, area codes, zip codes and even Wi-Fi hotspots by sending the number "92466" to Yahoo.

Yahoo will then send back a web link to the user for them to find more related results.

Customers of Cingular, Sprint and Verizon will be the first to have access to the service.
