Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia, has just passed a big milestone with the addition of the 10 millionth article across 253 languages.

Wikipedia, which was launched in January 2001, apparently now boasts a combined total of over 1.74 billion words for all Wikipedias. The English language version offers over two million articles.

And - for factoid lovers - the 10 millionth milestone entry was a biography of a 16th century English goldsmith and painter Nicholas Hilliard, on the Hungarian version of the user-edited site.
