Sony to charge to remove trial software from Vaio range

Bloatware-free ... at a price

21 March 2008 12:26 GMT / By Stuart Miles

Sony has moved toward offering customers of its Vaio laptop range the chance to get their brand new laptop free of trail software.

The catch however appears to be that you'll need to pay for the privilege of being bloatware-free.

Customers looking for a "Fresh Start" will have to pay a $50 premium in the US.

According to Sony the option will mean your new laptop "will undergo a system optimistation service where specific VAIO applications, trial software and games are removed from your unit prior to shipment".

Sony goes on to say that "Fresh Start safely scrubs your PC to free up valuable hard drive space and conserve memory and processing power while maximizing overall system performance right from the start".

At the moment Sony is only offering the service on its TZ2000 model.

No word as to whether Sony will be offering the service in the UK. We will keep you posted.
