Garmin has taken its Vivosmart activity tracker line to a new level in the Vivosmart HR.

The new tracker, as the name suggests, now offers heart rate measurements. While the older bands were famed for all year battery, this will offer five days for that HR trade-off.

The Vivosmart HR features a touchscreen display that's always on. On that display you'll be able to see recorded data like steps taken, floors climbed, calories burned, distance travelled and more.

It'll also track sleep and be waterproof to 50 metres. The device will also automatically set goals and alert the wearer to move when stagnant for too long.

When paired with a smartphone the band is able to display texts, calls, emails, calendar and social media alerts, and control music.

The band measures activity intensity using Garmin's Intensity Minutes measure. This allows for comparison of progress to weekly aerobic activity goals recommended by health organisations like the American Heart Association, World Health Organisation. Garmin has also launched its "Beat Yesterday" campaign to try and get people moving more and living more healthy lives.

At the moment the Garmin Vivosmart HR has been announced for release in the US and Canada from 1 November. Pricing has not been announced.
