Corel has launched the latest version of its DVD and video playback software for PCs.

WinDVD 9 includes Blu-ray support as well as a better interface; new upscaling capability, and added high-definition surround sound technology.

"WinDVD 9 Plus Blu-ray is designed for the movie buff, frequent flyer and those who want a superior video and audio playback experience in one easy-to-use solution", said Petter Nordwall, EMEA product director.

The redesigned interface includes new navigation controls – including advanced audio and video controls.

The upscaling technologies include Trimension All2HD Upscaling, which is claimed to convert standard-definition DVDs and videos to near-high-definition video without the added expense of high-definition drives and media.

Other tools includes a Digital Natural Motion facility, which removes the judder effect from fast-motion scenes; the De-snow Filter to remove digital noise; and the De-block Filter, which removes blocky digital artifacts from MPEG, H.264 and VC-1 compressed video.

WinDVD 9 Plus Blu-ray is priced at £59; while WinDVD 9 Plus is priced £39; and WinDVD 9 is priced at £24.
