Samsung reveals tiny 8-megapixel camera

Will allow for super-slim high-res cameraphones

In Korea, Samsung has revealed what it says is one of the world's smallest high resolution cameras yet.

Capable of 8-megapixel shots, the new camera is the size of a coin measuring 28 x 15.3 x 8.5mm.

Its minuscule dimensions will mean manufacturers will be able to fit it into thinner and more compact phones than even many 5-megapixel cameras.

The sensor offers impressive specs for the size, with up to ISO 1600 light sensitivity, anti-blur and noise correction, and both face and smile detection.

Samsung says the new camera will be used both in Korea and abroad, in mobile phones as well as digital cameras and other portable media devices.

Production samples will arrive in May with products containing the tiny camera in consumer's hands in the second half of the year.
