The announcement of a Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 is hardly a big surprise, given that leaked images showing the device first surfaced in May, but now it has been officially revealed and you will be able to buy one from August.

There will be two sizes available, with 9.7-inch and 8-inch screens, and they will each have a variety of storage and connectivity options. They also have good claim to the "world's thinnest" moniker at just 5.6mm thick apiece.

Both will be available with 32GB or 64GB of internal storage and have microSD card slots for expansion by up to a further 128GB. And they will be available in both Wi-Fi only or 4G LTE versions.

In terms of other specifications, both sizes are almost identical. Screen resolution is 2048 x 1536 on each - giving the smaller of the two a better pixels per inch of 320ppi in comparison to the larger model's 264ppi.

The processor used is an unnamed octa-core processor running at 1.9GHz and 1.3Ghz across two sets of quad-cores. They both come with Android 5.0 Lollipop and 8-megapixel cameras on the rear, 2.1-megapixel cameras on each device's front.

Batteries differ however, with a 5,870mAh battery powering the 9.7-inch tablet, a 4,000mAh battery for the 8-incher.

UK and US prices for both tablets are yet to be revealed. They will both be available in black and white.
