In February 2015, HTC unveiled the Grip, a wearable sports bracelet, the fruit of its union with Under Armour. Since the announcement and early prototype demos, we've heard very little about HTC Grip.

However the company has now come forward and issued a statement, confirmed suspicions that Grip was getting some revisions.

"Through our partnership with Under Armour, we have continued to refine our vision and approach to the health and fitness category. Our goal is to offer best-in-class products for our customers and partners. After extensive wear testing and user feedback, we have decided to align GRIP with the entire product portfolio for health and fitness launching later this year," said HTC in a statement.

"This will be a state-of-the-art comprehensive portfolio of products for this category powered by UA RECORD. We are excited to launch this new comprehensive product suite and will share further details as we get closer to launch."

With fitness wearables saturating the market, and HTC and Under Armour fairly slow to bring Grip to market, we can't help thinking it's a smart move. There really isn't the need for another bracelet-style device, not when faced with Polar, Garmin, Jawbone, Fitbit, Sony, Misfit, Withings, and plenty more already offering similar features.

The good news, however, is that Under Armour and HTC still have plans to release a portfolio of UA Record powered devices and that should be appearing later in the year. We're hoping there's some great smart fitness appareil coming.
