Apple offers podcasting in latest iTunes update

Podcasting feature added

Apple has added Podcasting to its iTunes music software package offering users the chance to track and download their favourite podcasts from across the web.

The new feature comes in version 4.9 and is available to download from Apple or as a part of the Apple Update program.

Users will be able to catalogue their collection in a similar way to music tracks as well as adding their own to the application.

Steve Jobs announced last month that the service would be available.

Podcasts, or sound files and audio content such as radio shows, have surged in popularity since late in 2004, and will work on any digital MP3 player. The trend allows users to create and upload their own audio programs on the Web which can be downloaded to multimedia players at a later date.

Pocket-lint.co.uk will be launching a podcasting service next month including a fortnightly news programme.

We will keep you posted.
