It's that time of year once again, gaming fans. The E3 expo has kicked off in Los Angeles, with a bevy of top titles on offer.

We've rounded up a bunch of our favourites by genre, and given the oodles of quality adventure and role-playing games on offer, it seemed fitting to compile them into one comprehensive overview.

Some games were merely teased, others shown in live-action trailer format, while some of the more complete titles we've had the chance to play.

These deep, immersive games – which vary from side-on RPGs such as South Park, to third-person shooters such as Mass Effect: Andromeda, and quirky puzzlers such as the highly anticipated The Last Guardian – are what we'll be playing on PC, PS4 and Xbox One later this year and arriving throughout 2016.

The obvious omission is the latest Zelda for Wii U, which Nintendo is purposely keeping close to its chest (instead showing off Star Fox) – perhaps a worry that Link will end up held back for the Nintendo NX console launch instead.

Still, looks like we're all in for a major treat over the coming month. How will there be enough hours in the day? We just don't know. Here are the best adventure and RPG games from E3 2015...
