YouTube opens up to developers. Software, Online, YouTube, Google, Yahoo, Flickr 0

Developers are mighty busy at the moment. Not only has Apple opened up its iPhone and iPod touch for third party applications, but now web developers are being offered the chance to design their own version of YouTube.

At the moment, web users can copy and embed selected videos from the Google-owned site into their own web pages.

But YouTube is now going to allow developers access to its whole video library, its audience, and the underlying video hosting and streaming network that powers it.

This means that anyone can upload videos straight into YouTube as well as being able to fetch video feeds, comments, responses and playlists back from YouTube.

Yahoo has already done the same with its Flickr photo-sharing website, and we wonder who's going to be next in this wave of web generosity.
