Canon launches 3 new IXUS models

Digital IXUS SD970 IS, Digital IXUS 90 IS, and Digital IXUS 85 IS

Canon has announced the launch of three new 10 megapixel digital cameras as apart of its IXUS range on Wednesday evening.

The new models, the IXUS 970 IS, the IXUS 90 IS and the IXUS 85 IS, promise technologies such as Motion Detection Technology, Optical Image Stabilisation, Genuine Canon Face Detection Technology, and Canon’s proprietary DIGIC III imaging processor.

The 10 megapixel IXUS SD970 IS will offer a 5x optical image stabilised zoom lens (37mm to 185mm), a 2.5-inch PureColor II LCD display, and macro capabilities from less than an inch away from the subject.

The IXUS 90 IS will offer the same megapixel count, however will only have a 3x optical zoom (35mm to 105mm). The size of a deck of playing cards, the camera will have a 3-inch screen on the rear of the camera.

Finally the company has announced the IXUS 85 IS. Virtually identical to the IXUS 90 in spec, the main difference will be a smaller screen size of 2.5-inches compared to 3-inches.

The IXUS 970, or PowerShot SD890 IS as it will be known in the US, the IXUS 90 (SD790 IS) and the IXUS 85 (SD770 IS) cameras are scheduled to be in stores early-April, end of March and mid-April respectively.

Each of these new, camera kits include a battery pack and charger, a 32MB SD memory card and will cost £299, £259 and £239 respectively. In the US they will cost $399.99, $349.99 and $299.99 respectively.
