Apple has just released its first software update for Apple Watch since launching the wearable last month.

Called Version 1.0.1 of Watch OS, the smartwatch's operating system update brings bug fixes and improvements for things like Siri, measuring stand activity, and the ability to calculate calories for indoor cycling and rowing workouts as well as distance and pace during outdoor walks and runs, among other things.

To update the software on your Apple Watch, you'll need to connect your Apple Watch to power and make sure it has at least a 50 per cent charge. You'll also need to connect your iPhone to Wi-Fi and keep your iPhone next to your Apple Watch to ensure they're in range. From there, follow the steps on this support page.

The Watch OS update also bolstered accessibility and third-party apps, and it included display support for new Emoji characters. It also added more languages like Brazilian Portuguese, Danish, Dutch, Swedish, Russian, Thai, and Turkish.

We've already played with the update for a bit and have noticed Siri is vastly improved (it's almost instant now on a good connection), and apps seem to load a little faster.
