Google to cut jobs at DoubleClick

Acquisition now completed so cuts could begin next month

Yesterday's announcement that the EU is to allow Google to buy DoubleClick may lead to massive job cuts at the online advertising firm.

Google has said in a statement that it will make an unspecified number of job cuts following on from completing its $3.1 billion acquisition yesterday.

Google said that it cannot, at the moment, release details of its integration plans but it will by early April.

"An immediate task we'll undertake over the next few weeks is matching and aligning DoubleClick employees with our organizational plan for the business", Google said in a blog post.

"As with most mergers, there may be reductions in headcount. We expect these to take place in the US and possibly in other regions as well", the company said.

DoubleClick, which is headquartered in New York (in the same building as Google's NY office) has 1500 employees.
